Dillon, Montana
I began my first assignment in a small town called Dillon, Montana. Dillon has over 3,000 people in the city limits and about 5,000 in the county. Cattle out number people hands down, with a cattle population of over 2 million. Dillon is located in the southwest corner of the state; roughly an hour south of Butte, Montana and three hours northwest of Yellowstone National Park.
The trade center for the Big Hole and Beaverhead Valley ranchers is Dillon. The town was original started as a railroad town on the route to mineral rich Butte, Montana. Although it was once Montana's largest wool shipping point, Dillon is now better known for being home of Western Montana University and recreation activities surrounding the town include Beaverhead National Forest, Big Hole River, and Clark Canyon Reservoir. All these places allow for fun weekends of hiking, camping, skiing, floating on the rivers, and PHOTOGRAPHY for me!
